Network Innovations provides tailored solutions designed to meet each customer’s unique needs. For this project, that meant providing reliable and secure communications across a fleet of vessels in the Netherlands.
The Challenge
Rijkswaterstaat is part of the Dutch government under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, and is responsible for designing, constructing, managing, and maintaining the Netherlands’ primary infrastructure, including waterways and flood defenses.
They required robust connectivity to support their day-to-day corporate communications across a fleet of vessels, with a particular focus on reliable vessel-to-vessel and vessel-to-shore communication. Equally important was that the solution remained scalable and cost-effective, allowing it to be easily adjusted in line with changes in fleet size or usage demands.
The customer was also looking for a trusted technology integration partner - one that prioritised open communication, held ISO 27001 certification, and demonstrated deep expertise in offshore connectivity and hybrid networking. They required a partner capable of supporting them across migration and ongoing optimisation, with a proven ability to meet stringent security and regulatory standards.
The Solution
While Rijkswaterstaat finalized its solution criteria, the Network Innovations Netherlands team conducted initial surveys on a small number of vessels to inform the wider deployment. This approach was then scaled across the fleet, with the final solution leveraging Argus Multi-Path to deliver consistent, resilient connectivity across fourteen vessels.
Argus Multi-Path intelligently steers traffic across multiple active links, including satellite and other available networks, optimizing performance in real time based on network conditions.
Each vessel aggregates and manages these connections to maintain a stable and reliable service. If a link degrades or fails, traffic is automatically rerouted without disruption, ensuring continuous communication. Carrier prioritization balances performance requirements with cost efficiency across the available paths.
This architecture keeps connectivity always on and optimized, even in challenging maritime environments.
On the delivery of the solution, Robert de Gronckel, Account Manager Government, commented:
“NI Portal was also implemented as part of the wider project to provide our customer with greater visibility and control across their fleet. This enables them to centrally manage and monitor connectivity, support day-to-day operations more effectively, and gain the insight needed to maintain a reliable service.”
Once installation was complete, Network Innovations’ experts performed final checks with Rijkswaterstaat to confirm system readiness.
